This is an interview I conducted with WOW's Poison. It is my first ever attempt at doing an interview and I think it turned out pretty well. I'd like to thank Poison for taking time out of her schedule to do this interview and for being so honest in answering some of the questions.
CoolCraig: What were you doing before you became a part of WOW?
Poison: Before WOW - the struggling actress getting parts here and there and working in a restaurant. (Good use of a college education)
CC: What is your ethnic background?
P: Ethnic background is Dutch, Irish, Filipino. My Mom is from the Philippines and is part Japanese and Spanish.
CC: I have heard you lived in a number of places, where have you lived?
P: Born in West Covina, California. Moved to Guam, back to Mission Viejo, California. Moved to Hawaii then onto Okinawa, from there back to Hawaii then onto Fairfax County, Virginia then back to Hawaii. Stayed in Hawaii at the University then on to St. Augustine, Florida to get my degree then out here to California to follow that star!
CC: How long have you been a wrestling fan?
P: I have only been a wrestling fan for about a year. My brother was a big fan when he was small but I did not like it at all.
CC: Did you ever dream of being a wrestler when you were a child?
P: Being a wrestler never entered my mind at all. Wonder Woman was my hero!
CC: Who are some of your favourite wrestlers, past and present?
P: My favorite wrestler is the Rock. He is so good looking and very nice when not in the ring. He has what it takes to get a crowd going. I like Triple H also.
CC: Selina Majors and Thug trained most of the WOW wrestlers. Who did you work with the most and what did you learn from them?
P: I worked with Selina and Thug and learned so much from the two of them. It was painful but both are great teachers. I probably did a little more with Thug because I am a heel. We do keep heels and faces apart for the most part.
CC: What was your first wrestling match in front of a live crowd like?
P: My first match was with Randi Rah Rah and I had separated my shoulder three days before the match. I was worried before we went out. The injury kept me out of the Battle Royal. When I came out and heard the fans screaming and the fireworks go off, I became Poison. When I walked in the ring I slapped my butt and told the crowd to kiss it. It just came out, it wasn't scripted but it did work. I loved it!
CC: Why did Phantom leave WOW?
P: To this day I don't know why Phantom left WOW. We were going to be partners and it was abrupt. I figure if they wanted us to know, we would have been told.
CC: Did Patti Pizzazz quit WOW before the PPV? What happened to her?
P: Patti did quit WOW about two days before the PPV. She is living in Las Vegas and the last I heard is that she was doing well. She was commuting to L.A. to work and she had some other problems that are personal and I will not get into. I wish Patti all the best in what she does, she is very nice.
CC: Do you consider yourself to be a “babyface” or a “heel”?
P: I am a HEEL! Make no mistake about that. I enjoy being that way.
CC: Who did you enjoy working with the most in WOW?
P: I enjoy working with a number of people. Thug is a great teacher and knows how far you can go, Selina does also. The people I work with the most are the people I am closest to, Danger, Slam, Disciplinarian, Caged Heat, Hammerin' Heather and some others.
CC: Did you suffer any injuries during WOW?
P: I have had a bruised tailbone, separated shoulder, concussion, sprained ankle, cartilage problems with my knee and strained back. Bruises you wouldn't believe.
CC: Who do you wish you could work with in WOW that you haven’t worked with?
P: I have pretty much worked with everyone in WOW. As far as wrestled against in a match I would like to work with Jungle Grrrl. She is very good. Most of the girls like working with me because I work very hard to make thing come off correctly and that makes your opponent look good.
CC: What have you enjoyed most about being a part of WOW?
P: By FAR, what I have enjoyed most is the wrestlers I have worked with. If we never have another match I have met some of the most wonderful people in my life while working for WOW. For that, I will always be grateful.
CC: Do you watch any WWF programs?
P: It was required to watch the other organizations. I still watch but not as much because I work a lot of nights.
CC: Which WOW wrestlers do you think could make it in the WWF?
P: At least half of our girls, including Poison could make it in the WWF easily.
CC: Would you go to the WWF, if they made an offer?
P: If the WWF made an offer I would seriously consider it. I am not under contract right now. I would look at the money aspect because it would have to be very attractive to put up with their travel schedule. You also have to consider what they want you to do. I will not do the T&A things they have done in the past.
CC: Are there any angles/storylines that you would object to?
P: I don't like a lot of storylines. Being Lana's assistant was as stupid as storylines come for Poison. Sometime the storylines get over-done. I find most people are much smarter than the writers give them credit for.
CC: What type of diet do you have?
P: My diet varies. I like meat but I am not a big meat eater. I love chocolate but I stay away from that and snack foods. I splurge and eat at Taco Bell or order a Pizza once in a while. For the most part I am Chicken and fish, lots of veggies. I get good food at The Hard Rock Cafe where I have been doing some work.
CC: What is your workout schedule like?
P: My workout schedule when we were wrestling was running at least three days per week. Two hours in the gym with weights and aerobics 5 days a week and generally a three to four hour practice session at the forum 5 to 6 times a week. Now that we are not wrestling I am steady at three days in the gym and three days running unless my knee hurts, lots of stomach crunches.
CC: What are your feelings on former WWF and WCW writer Vince Russo?
P: I wouldn't know Vince Russo from Adam.
CC: What are your thoughts on people who trashed WOW Unleashed despite never seeing WOW before?
P: Everybody has an opinion. People can say what they like. I do know that you cannot please everyone. I didn't see Unleashed so I don't know what everyone saw. I know there were some technical problems but I have nothing to do with that. These are questions David McLane would have to answer.
CC: What do you think would make WOW successful?
P: For WOW to be successful you need to have a real game plan, pay the wrestlers more, market and promote and be more professional. It is a business and should be run like one. Some personnel changes have to be made. If it makes it, we will need a white knight that knows what they are doing. The wrestling part is fine, the remainder needs to be real world.
CC: What have you been doing since WOW has gone on hiatus?
P: I have been working my ass off. I want to be available for auditions and acting class so I am working at the hard Rock and also at the Comedy Store but I also have some little things I do on the side. Need to pay bills!
CC: Any new projects you wish to plug?
P: No new projects right now. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a couple of things.
CC: Any final comments for your fans?
P: To the fans? Well, it has been a real roller coaster ride since we first started shooting WOW. I have been amazed at how people react to wrestling. I am either sworn at or being told someone loves me. At least I get a reaction. For those of you that take wrestling too seriously just remember that it is sports entertainment not an Olympic sport. I have always had a great appreciation for all the fans because they are the audience and that is who we perform for. It would be nice to meet every one of them to say thanks but that is impossible. The best thing WOW did was put the website up so that fans could access the wrestlers. I have always tried to answer the fans, good or bad and can't understand why some of us never cared to. At this point almost all of us spend less time, or in some cases, no time with the message boards because there is no show and we are not obligated. I just try to return a little to the fans. No matter what happens to WOW, going on or being forgotten, it was a hell of a run for me. Thanks for watching.
CC: Once again Poison thanks for taking the time to do this interview, I appreciate it.
